Fraudsters copy this data onto blank cards to make unauthorized, in-person purchases or withdraw cash, as the clone functions identically to the original. 

• How they are made (Skimming): Criminals install small, inconspicuous devices (skimmers) on card readers to read and record data when a card is swiped. A hidden camera or keypad overlay is often used to capture the PIN.
• Targeted Information: While modern EMV chips are harder to clone, the magnetic stripe and cardholder data (name, number, expiry) are copied, allowing use in locations that still accept swipes.

• Detection & Prevention: Victims usually notice fraud via unauthorized charges on statements. Prevention includes checking for bulky card readers, using contactless/chip options, and monitoring bank statements.
